AMD FSR 2.0 User Mod for Cyberpunk 2077 Doubles Frame Rates

Modders have discovered a solution to make AMD's most recent upscaling algorithm function in Cyberpunk 2077.

Modders have discovered a solution to make AMD's most recent upscaling algorithm function in Cyberpunk 2077. PotatoOfDoom1337, a NexusMods contributor, has released some files and instructions for utilizing AMD FSR 2.0 in the game. Please keep in mind that the mod is a "proof of concept," therefore testers should expect issues. Nonetheless, PotatoOfDoom1337 provided some interesting pictures as well as performance increase details.

A couple of gaming screenshots are one of the most important pieces of evidence to validate this mod. The first screenshot illustrates the game with FSR 2.0 Balanced and all settings set to Max; the second screenshot reflects the game with FSR 1.0 Balanced as well as all settings set to Max.

We didn't have to zoom in and scratch our chins for long to notice the difference; AMD FSR 2.0 is considerably more detailed and vibrant. PotatoOfDoom1337 reported that he run the game at 4K on his aged GeForce GTX 1080, with FPS doubled to a relatively decent 45 FPS after applying FSR 2.0.

If you're interested in PotatoOfDoom1337's mod, go to the project website, download the files, and follow the installation instructions. Let us remind you that this tinkering could damage your game installation and end up wasting a lot of your time. Also, if you regularly use Nvidia DLSS in this game, this mod disables that upscaler. You will change FSR 2.0 parameters using the DLSS quality menu after installing this modification in the game UI.

FSR 2.0 is AMD's response to NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), and it is the "next-level AMD temporal upscaling technology aimed to produce equivalent or better than native image quality and enhance framerates in compatible games across a wide variety of products and platforms. Unlike DLSS, which leverages machine learning to optimize anti-aliasing, FSR optimizes anti-aliasing based on temporal data."

Last year, AMD announced Xbox FSR compatibility, stating that it employs "AI to upscale lower resolution images and make them seem at a higher resolution without requiring a significant amount of performance."
