Apple hikes Apple Music price for students in U.S., Canada, and U.K

Apple is reportedly raising the price of its Music service for student subscribers in the UK, US, and Canada.

Apple is reportedly raising the price of its Music service for student subscribers in the UK, US, and Canada. The Student plan will cost £5.99 per month instead of £4.99. In the United States and Canada, the price will rise from $4.99 to $5.99.

Students who have Apple Music subscriptions have begun noticing the price increase on their iPhones and iPads' subscription screens, according to 9to5Mac, even though Apple has not yet confirmed the price increase for UK users. Although the official date that Apple introduced these changes is unknown, rumours indicate that it may have been between June 21 and June 23. Apple Music has 98 million users globally as of 2021.

There may be millions of users impacted by this price rise, although it is questionable how many of these are student plan subscribers. The news broke after Apple quietly raised the price of its Studen plan in other countries last month, such as Australia, Indonesia, Israel, Singapore, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya.

For the time being, nothing has changed with the Apple Music individual subscription, which charges £9.99 a month after a free trial. The service's student plan's price hike, however, may result in future price increases for all subscribers. Apple hasn't explicitly stated that this will happen, though.

The family plan, which grants access to Apple Music to up to six users, is still available in the UK for the same price of £14.99 per month. Apple enhanced the sound quality of all user music last year by turning all 75 million Apple Music tracks into a "lossless" format and adding support for Dolby Audio. This upgrade was provided to all users without charge.

How to purchase a student subscription to Apple Music

  • Users must select "Student" when signing up for the service, then select "Verify Eligibility" to be on an Apple Music student plan.
  • Then, according to Apple, you'll be redirected to the UNiDAYS website, where you must follow the on-screen instructions to confirm your identification and enrol. You'll be taken back to the Apple Music app or iTunes once UNiDAYS has confirmed that you are a student.
  • At last, you'll be able to benefit from the lower subscription fee once you've registered your ID.
